How about we do a l4d related art competition? Whether it's screenshot, signature, hand-drawn... w/e.

We could vote a panel of judges to grade the work.

I don't have a "professional" portfolio, I am however working on a website at the moment for myself. I mainly do templates for websites and I like to make backgrounds and signatures. I'm really into photography as well so I try to incorporated that into my work to make it more personal and my style.

I think the judges should be voted on by the competitors, but it's good to know that there is a lot of people ready to volunteer to be considered :)

I'd like this to be a real art competition, not a group of people voting for biased favorites (not that I'm accusing anyone, just putting it out there :P). ATM it seems to me like a lot of the people are thinking it's gonna be a joke/goofy thing to do. Perhaps I'm wrong, and I'd like to be proven wrong, but as there is STILL no sticky thread or poll (maybe a poll can't be created? if so then SAY so.) I find that hard to believe.

This contest has nothing to do with comml4d except that the discussion is taking place on the comml4d forum. The goal is to get the community itself involved (which includes the moderators certainly) but is separate from anything 'official' regarding the site. If comml4d wants to host some contest in the future I think that's great, but I think the community should decide who is on the panel -- and yes a poll for the judges would be a good idea. Top 3 names should be the judges IMO. A list of everyone who has volunteered is in the top post.

I agree entirely.
A good list of criteria would be: Composition, Originality, Technique/Style, Lighting, Color. Each category being a 1-10 for each judge. Then the scores would be totaled and compared.

As for subject matter I think it should be a still image, L4D related(since this is the comml4d site), but other then that it can be open ended. No restrictions on tools used. I would suggest that a good way to decide the theme or subject would be to come up with 5 concepts and make a poll for that as well. I'll list a few suggestions:

Character Sketch/Portrait/Image (of any l4d character/class)
Character + Setting Sketch etc. (any map / character / group)
Themed Image (Tank/Horde/Witch etc.)
New Class (Something creative.. come up with a new special infected)
Survivors as Infected (What would a Louis look like if he was a tank? o_O?)

I can't think of anything else at the moment, maybe someone else can throw something in.
