So who uses them? I've heard people talking that it can give you an advantage since it basically tells you whats going on as if you couldn't hear anything... but who all uses them and do you think they help?

I personally don't use them as I just rely on my amazing sound I get with my headphones... Yak know what I'm talking about there :D

I've tried using them and most of the time they just get annoying, but they did tell you about like a boomer gurgle it said, and also things like smoker cough, and hunter scream.

i haven't used them, but they do seem useful, i always forget to turn them on for scrims.

I use them, I find it a subtle advantage, its helped me hone in on a boomer behind a wall.

Lol, yeah I do the same. I had them on for awhile and they seem useful, but I could never focus on the text during an actual game cause i was too busy looking around.

I understand how they can be useful

However, I find them to be very annoying, so I choose to play without them, escpecially since sounds (boomer gurgle, tank growl, etc) are so distinctive

I started to use them not too long ago actually.... and reason being that I have found myself waaay too many times having random hordes attack me (or if I get vomited on) and not even notice a tank.

I know you all are going to say that you have amazing sound and you can hear everything. But I know my sound is good too, and when I've the stupid horde music playing on top of gunfire, and with added screaming and hitting of common infected, too many times i've randomly had a tank come up to me, and i never heard it coming. So to avoid that, turn on captions.. and even in the middle of hordes, you can see the "tank growls" and know that the tank is coming when ur stuck in a horde. Thats really my only reason for using it, its saved me from some very rare, but very sticky situations. So in that sense I think its useful.

If you're a smart player, then you'll use the captions. Trust me.

It becomes habitual to just sense the colors of what you see instead of literally "reading" each individual text line.

It's just a learning process that you eventually get used to.

OMG.. i play at the lowest reso possible. So as you can imagine, captions take up my entire screen. If you happen to figure it out plz post it... thx.

Well I know that in Half-Life 2 and the episodes, they're very detailed in captions. Even to the most miniscule thing as reloading your gun or using your sprint key.
