So I was thinking about ways to get exposure for our pug but, since I think it is a great too and just needs to catch on before it becomes very popular. Many teams/companies do "play with the pros" nights where the top players will pug for a specific time and players can get in games with them. We could do something similar with the pug bot, have players from top teams being captains and leading pugs. For example every sat afternoon we could have sign ups for players from top teams where they play for a certain amount of time leading pugs vs each other.

This has a number of benefits:

1) It brings exposure to comml4d/pug bot and allows players who are sick of pubbing to have a great alternative for a more competitive environment.

2) It gives good players without a team exposure so they can have an easier time finding a team.

3) By playing with top players, hopefully the people that are pugging will get better, thus improving the overall quality of competition present in L4D.

4) Most importantly it will show we aren't elitist, and are dedicated to improving the quality of community L4D has.

Some things to consider adding to the pug bot:

1) Reputation system/banlist. Similar to dota TDA/list checkers, so players can't ruin games on a consistent game.

2) Some sort of stat system (similar to how esea works).

Pug Bot is a great tool that has a ton of potential, just look at what esea has done with their pugging system. We need to look at their model and try to emulate the things they did right, and improve on whatever they might have done wrong.

I love this idea!

I'd be happy to be a part of this and teach some beginners how to play.

Excellent idea. I will work to implement this starting the weekend after this one (after the Cup is basically done). If I wasn't so busy this weekend I would try to start it this weekend....If you guys want to try to kick it off yourselves that would be awesome.

One note on the pugbot. Something we ran into today. You need to have the server reset with the cal cfg on to the first map after teams are done playing. We joined the specified server from the pug bot and it was on dead air campaign.

So we ended up having to use someones personal server since pugs usually dont have access to the comm servers.

Or, if this can be done, try to set up a remote script to set the server up when the pug is created.

I started to pick apart this idea, but I'll just say this:

It's a good concept that can work well in some circumstances, good luck. I don't particuarly like it, but others probably will.

Cartire the servers got accidentally reset and they default on Dead Air. They are ready to go now.

If that ever happens, PM dstill, np^downtown, or me and we can fix em.
