Ive decided to make my entry into the competitive gaming arena and L4D at the same time. My only previous experience in any sort of pressure environment is s1-s3 of WoW's arena, though once I figured out the extent of the competition in gaming from observing halo matches in MLG/GB and CS:S I quickly started looking into what I could personally contribute. (also spend a lot of time on a lesser known game called continuum that I love for it's established league structure in 4v4 ) I have spent a fair amount of time looking around and figuring out just what goes into this area effort-wise so Im not a total rookie.

I hope to have a team (that knows each other) capable of decent skirmishes by mid march.

Aside from that...any tips/tricks/traps I should be watching out for? Flames welcome...

If you're looking to get better at the game there are at least three things you can do.

1. Don't pub
2. Partake in scrims by ringing for teams or playing in 8mans. Best place to do this is by looking in #L4D on the gamesurge IRC network.
3. Download demos from the files haring section on the website and view them.

i figured about the pubbing. thanks for the irc tip though. am i looking for just any demo or should i be selective as far as names go, sticking mostly to the ones who get bandied about on youtube/l4driot/l4dcommunity?
