Hey CommFT. 2thumbs here. Main Demo for iGib. I'm sure you're all familiar with our captain Hawkeye by now. I wanted to share an idea I had right before falling asleep last night.

Precursor: I am not a coder. I am not a mapper.

Idea: Competitive Jump Training Map.

It would be set up sort of like TrackMania United in that if you miss your jump, you'll be teleported right back to where you can try again. So, time starts, and you Jump to door from your spawn position. If you don't land in a specified general area, you have to start again. Next jump curves around and down stairs. You'll have to repeat that jump until you succeed and land in an appropriate position. Same for up the stairs to batts; learning to surf that takes a while. The jump out of the window approaching house, IMO, is the hardest jump to master. Respawning at the small health pack repeatedly would assist in getting that jump down for others that may have that issue.

As an added aid, perhaps markers could be added to the map to show proper placement of stickies as decided upon by some of you higher level players...

Just like Jump_hobo and others, it helps one learn to strafe and about sticky placement but focuses in on a competitive setting. As the maps are already built, I'm wondering if it would be possible to add the targets on the ground.

These sections could also be broken down individually. Similar to how ammomod is broken out to simulate sections of maps.

I hope I've conveyed a general idea of what this map would accomplish. I imagine very few comp players have "perfect" jumps and this would be a way to encourage newer demos/sollies to practice efficiently.

Again, I'm no mapper/coder and don't know if this would take more time than it is worth. I just thought this would be an appropriate forum in which to present said idea.

Nice meeting you all.

If I have the time to do something like this I will. I'm still debating on whether making it "multiplayer", having such features as a DM arena, possibly other types of combat, and speed run to point, or making it simply "individual" where it is meant for 1 team, possibly one player to get to the end, with only the finish of the jump track as the goal.
Also, multi-class or meant for one class only? Surprising as it may seem even jump_hobo can be done as soldier, albeit harder in some parts. How about other class training modes? engineer jumping, some kind of build location or tactical placement test? For scout, FaN and normal jump/strafing test? Pyro poof training? Generic target practice for all other class? many possibilities, but it would be nice to give the map as many functions as possible. Would be nice to have a contest similar to many others for mapping that we would had before, perhaps get some experienced competitive map makers to get involved.

I think I kind of understand what you're saying. I remember using a map (raztrainql_beta3) that took excerpts from maps to help you learn important parts of common competitive maps, such as the bridge jump on dm6, the platform jumps on ctf2, and many others like it. I can't think of a whole lot of rocket/sticky jumps that are really important but it'd be nice to have a map to practice them regardless.

If I understand your idea, then I wouldn't really mind doing it as a nice side project or something while we wait to make the next changes to shipyard. But if someone else (NeoRussia) wants to do then go for it!

Thanks for the replies. Neo, I had considered this more so as an individual training type map but I certainly can appreciate your fleshing it out to make it a more all-encompassing training venture. Ideally, when a team is getting beat to the point at blands or Granary, one can use this map as a tool to catch up.

v3locity - as you said, there aren't that many jumps per map. Perhaps then, BLU can be for demos and RED for sollies.

I'm just an idea guy. I wish I could offer more to the production of "tr_jumpbadlands" and whatever other would follow.

I'll try to create one with those points in mind, perhaps working a few things into it like the hole in badlands and the tricky double-jump from there to mid, or the several scout jumps on gravelpit and granary. I'm currently putting this map not the topmost priority, as I am very busy and will probably have something like this being able to be done during the holidays.

Sounds great. Thx for the consideration.
