What began as ringing for AI ended as a PUG. What began as quality played ended as, well...

I was laughing too hard to pop uber during this episode.

I only use viewmodels for melee. I prefer to see as much of the screen as possible, especially on medic.

Viewmodels are generally unnecessary for most weapons. For melee weapons it helps with the timing, especially since you use them so rarely that you can't get as much of a feel for the timing of the swings (unless for some reason you practice using them).

For the medigun the beam should be enough of a visual cue as to which type of medigun you're using.

Arguably the projectile weapons (rocket launcher, sticky launcher, grenade launcher, maybe needles) might need models on for some people, since unlike Quake they don't shoot from the center of your screen, but one day without them is enough to get used to them off.

The Minigun is a special consideration - the spin times might be hard to get a feel for, so you might want the model on, but the gun itself takes up a huge amount of space. I personally keep it on, but maybe the best option is a toggle.

Which is why I setup an epic, painful viewmodel toggle script.

Also, since this is now a Viewmodel topic, I'd like to throw in that you can disable tracers by using "viewmodel_fov 0", but that will also turn off the viewmodel (in case you want it on still). I'm pretty sure it makes projectiles come out of the middle of your screen, but that's just a guess and I haven't tested it.

i dont need a script. i use that crosshair switcher. all you have to do is make custom crosshair for the weapon and select No view_model, my computer is toasted so i wont be on to even try it out. but im getting the new pc soon so.

Yes, but it's difficult to change any scripts generated by that program, so I don't like it.

And anyhow, what the script did was allow me to toggle all viewmodels on/off, and revert to default, all using my Keypad + and - keys, is all.

And it was a pain.

You can't change where your projectiles fire from with viewmodel_fov. It will appear to you as if you're firing the weapon from a different location, but if you go stand next to a wall and try, you'll see.

That crosshair switcher program is great if that's the only config you want to use. However, the fact that it uses binds rather than aliases makes it kind of painful to deal with if you want to do anything else.

What I do with the crosshair switcher is to just pull out the aliases for them from the configs. then I can work them into my own script however I like (because you could theoretically just bind 1 to needlegun, 2 to medigun, etc. etc. and the binds are only used for mousewheel and switching using the Q key.)

I noticed the scout instantly disappeared once he died. How did you get that? Also, is that your own personal HUD?

The settings related to corpses that I use are:

cl_ragdoll_collide 0
cl_ragdoll_forcefade 1
cl_ragdoll_fade_time 0
cl_ragdoll_physics_enable 0

I don't have a full understanding of them; I think only cl_ragdoll_fade_time 0 (default 15) is necessary to create this effect, but cl_ragdoll_forcefade 1 (default 0) maybe be needed as well. The other two are just set to 0 for performance reasons (no need to potentially process ragdolls that I don't see).

The HUD is m0re's. I highly recommend it, it's excellent.

or you can use flame's hud, which i use... its almost the same as m0re's but for some reason i can't install m0re's hud's font, plus i like the layout better for flame's.

I use PVHUD (http://pvhud.drok-radnik.com/), and I think if I had known about it before m0res stuff went down, I'd still probably use it.
