Well,

I hope this is the right spot, admin please move this or let me know if it isn't. TIA!

Anyway, the southern California area (more like the western/south west coastal area of the US) is void of serious LAN events.

Maybe some here would be interested, and I know this is somewhat a late/close date to plan for, but here goes.

Lancryption 1.5 (http://www.lancryption.com) is set for December 5, 2009 thru the 6th (about 30 hours of gaming) in the city of Whittier, CA. Previously, our first event was in the Gardena, CA area but we've settled on a much better spot that will be around for much longer.

150 BYOC gamer spots with planned tournaments for CS:S, TF2, L4D and CoD4.

In Win is the primary sponsor (that's who dictated the Dec 5 date *shrug*), and thus is donating a number of prizes for the tournaments and general raffle.

But wait, there's more! :)

The tournaments will adhere to CEVO rules, and specific competition mods will be used whenever possible (right now, Frustrian's for L4D and ProMod Live NA for CoD4). And there's a twist: There will be a semi-pro and a pro division.

Semi-pro will generally be for the non-competitive/PUG type teams. Prizes for the semi-pro tournament will be the sponsored prizes.

Pro/competitive team tournament will have an onsite $15 buy-in per person. With 100% of the buy-in to go into the tournament pool, and a 70/20/10 split for 1st/2nd/3rd place teams.

Why the divisions? The sponsors don't want to be tied to a cash/money competition and the non-competitive teams tend to complain loudly about how badly they lost.

Plus, the sponsored teams/competitive teams tend to ask why there isn't some type of cash prize instead of some power supply or computer case.

One important thing to note: All prizes--raffle, semi-pro, and the pro division prizes--will be awarded by the end of the event. No waiting for a month to get a check that may never clear. No delay in getting the amount you expect, finding out that some fee were deducted. It's clear cut, simple and everything will be spelled out clearly. Full disclosure about rules and results for each tournament.

The event may only be about 30 hours, but it'll be packed solid with as much gaming as possible. Paid registrations will include a pizza dinner on Saturday night, and we'll be bringing in a lot of bottled water too (handing out water tickets to make sure there's enough for everyone, initially, and then giving out water until it's gone).

The event is a done deal, now I'm just trying to get the word out. And the more pro/competitive teams that register and attend, the larger the pool will be--absolutely none of the pool will go towards the event; seriously, 100% of all buy-ins for a tournament will be added to each respective pool and the top three teams will divide it up.

I think the only other detail to add, is that additional sponsors will be added as they come on board. If you have questions, by all means, email me.

Might want to post this in the L4D section of the forums as well, you'd probably get a pretty good response from them.

Edit: Guess you were already on it :P, didn't notice I responded so soon. Good luck with getting the word out!

Belated thanks!

It's done.

If you missed it, well, you lost out. Anyone who went, will be able to give an idea of the amount of prizes handed out. I think for some, it may have become a problem of finding enough room to put everything they won.

Although no one signed up for the pro/competitive division, the non-competitive division did happen.

Figure that each member of the winning team went home with an Inwin Maelstrom case (1200W PSU + 2.5" drive usb RFID hard drive enclosure to be shipped directly, within 10 days due to a delayed shipping container); and each 2nd place team won a mid-size Fanqua case.

CoD4 (5v5) + L4D (4v4) + TF2 (6v6) + CS:S (5v5) = 20 Maelstrom cases + 20 Fanqua cases

This didn't count the 20+ assorted PC cases, 15 assorted PSU from 650W/750W/850W/1200W, 3 Radeon HD 5750 video cards, 3 Intel I7 + 1 Intel I5 quad core CPUs, 1 Ballistix 4GB ram kit (2 x 2GB), 2 28" Hanspree LCD 1080P TVs, 3 Gigabyte motherboards, Gigabyte gaming mouse, Gigabyte gaming surfaces, and more than 9 cases of Roaring Lion energy drink (if you tasted this and Red Bull, you wouldn't be able to taste the difference).

Plus, Shattered Horizons for those that could get it to run, there was a nvidia GT240 video card, 6 copies of 3D Mark Vantage, and a couple of serial registrations for Shattered Horizons (some were only running on guest passes for the event).

Now, if you can't imagine the size of that prize pile, well, only pictures would be able to do that justice.

Ripping this from an HGS post for Team Triple Threat. Now, multiply the size of their prizes by about 6 times.

P.S. Forgot to mention, FutureMark President Oliver made a personal appearance, along with reps from eVGA, In Win, Hanspree, displays from Gigabyte, In Win, Hanspree, and Roaring Lion Energy drink.
