Well,
I hope this is the right spot, admin please move this or let me know if it isn't. TIA!
Anyway, the southern California area (more like the western/south west coastal area of the US) is void of serious LAN events.
Maybe some here would be interested, and I know this is somewhat a late/close date to plan for, but here goes.
Lancryption 1.5 (http://www.lancryption.com) is set for December 5, 2009 thru the 6th (about 30 hours of gaming) in the city of Whittier, CA. Previously, our first event was in the Gardena, CA area but we've settled on a much better spot that will be around for much longer.
150 BYOC gamer spots with planned tournaments for CS:S, TF2, L4D and CoD4.
In Win is the primary sponsor (that's who dictated the Dec 5 date *shrug*), and thus is donating a number of prizes for the tournaments and general raffle.
But wait, there's more! :)
The tournaments will adhere to CEVO rules, and specific competition mods will be used whenever possible (right now, Frustrian's for L4D and ProMod Live NA for CoD4). And there's a twist: There will be a semi-pro and a pro division.
Semi-pro will generally be for the non-competitive/PUG type teams. Prizes for the semi-pro tournament will be the sponsored prizes.
Pro/competitive team tournament will have an onsite $15 buy-in per person. With 100% of the buy-in to go into the tournament pool, and a 70/20/10 split for 1st/2nd/3rd place teams.
Why the divisions? The sponsors don't want to be tied to a cash/money competition and the non-competitive teams tend to complain loudly about how badly they lost.
Plus, the sponsored teams/competitive teams tend to ask why there isn't some type of cash prize instead of some power supply or computer case.
One important thing to note: All prizes--raffle, semi-pro, and the pro division prizes--will be awarded by the end of the event. No waiting for a month to get a check that may never clear. No delay in getting the amount you expect, finding out that some fee were deducted. It's clear cut, simple and everything will be spelled out clearly. Full disclosure about rules and results for each tournament.
The event may only be about 30 hours, but it'll be packed solid with as much gaming as possible. Paid registrations will include a pizza dinner on Saturday night, and we'll be bringing in a lot of bottled water too (handing out water tickets to make sure there's enough for everyone, initially, and then giving out water until it's gone).
The event is a done deal, now I'm just trying to get the word out. And the more pro/competitive teams that register and attend, the larger the pool will be--absolutely none of the pool will go towards the event; seriously, 100% of all buy-ins for a tournament will be added to each respective pool and the top three teams will divide it up.
I think the only other detail to add, is that additional sponsors will be added as they come on board. If you have questions, by all means, email me.
