Decent cash prize, 6+ months entry time and it will work.

6+ months entry time? It's the summer, so you know there's plenty of nerds willing to add 10 hrs a week to their 40 hrs of L4D for mapping purposes.

It would take at least 2 months for one person to make 5 solidly designed, good looking maps in L4D. I'd be amazed if someone could do it in less. 6 months is pushing it if you want to give people time to find out about the contest, plan for it and actually create a campaign.

games dead in 6 months anyway so why waste there time in the first place.

I don't think anybody would care to make 5 maps as it is, lol.. I'd assume most would try working on just one solid map to present and maybe a select few deciding to do 2 maps.

Bump! We'd like to see some more feedback on this topic as we are seriously considering hosting a contest.

wait where does it say it takes 5 maps to make a custom campaign?

ruleset should state 3 maps, not 5, for time consideration length of matches

Do it, campaigns don't have to be 5 maps long. Just make the first two a bit longer with several areas that are hard to get through.

If a campaign was nm3, da3, dt5 that would give each teams plenty of chances to attack.

Do we really need a 4th map that has a bloated score and is a breeze?

to mappers: leave out map bonus multipliers.

The only foreseeable problem is even a quality 3-part campaign would take several
weeks to complete. However, currently, I am working on 2 3-part campaigns, and 1
survival level, as well as co-authoring a third campaign. I'd gladly submit my campaigns,
but it'll be some time.

10 hours a week in the editor won't be enough for anything worth playing.

Lotta time to invest...

Although I generally leave my Editor open through the night, I've invested about 40 hours
currently into the campaigns I'm working on. Balance this between classes starting on
the 22nd. If you're seriously interested in creating quality content, be prepared to
invest 40 hours a week into your campaign. The industry professionals invest anywhere
from 40-80 a week in their work, and they're professionals. It takes time to produce
quality content. This isn't an unrealistic approach.

For anyone competing in this. I will provide you with free webhosting to upload the map to.
As with a testing l4d server to use maybe. Send me a pm on irc or on here.

a lot of these custom campaigns that were made for l4d1 have some great sections that would make for awesome scavenge maps. I dont know whats involved in taking out just a section but would be fun.
