View Full Version : Mouse Sensitivity for Each Class

I've seen several sensitivity topics posted in a handful of forums, but none address what class is being used with the sensitivity. I know many people say it all comes down to personal preference, but since there are several high level players that post in these forums I'm curious if they have more of a reason (considering the fact I do for myself).
As for me, I mainly play Scout. My DPI is 1500 and my in game sensitivity is 2.7.
When I started playing my in game sensitivity was around 4 with my DPI at the same place as it is now. It was a mess, my aim was terrible. I guess I'm kinda concluding Scout (Sniper and Engineer) are better with a lower sensitivity, but I'm wondering if anyone else uses a drastically higher or lower sensitivity than I do for those classes.
As for the other classes, maybe my sensitivity is just not suited properly to be good at Soldier, Demoman, etc. Maybe it's just random, but there's got to be logic somewhere in all this... right?
EDIT: I'm now using a DPI of 875 and an in-game sensitivity of 1.7 My aim has gotten better :)

Well, I use a sensitivity of 2.0 for all my classes, and I main soldier in comp play and spy in the pub. I play almost every class and have great aim with that, even with sniper. I have no problem rocketing scouts with low sensitivity. Some people like different levels for different classes or higher settings. Me, I like it low.

2 sensitivity at 800 DPI for every class, about 10" for a full 360, and i mainly play scout but i can tell you that you really shouldn't change your sensitivity for different classes. the whole process of getting better aim is improving your muscle memory to the point where you have flawless, 100% mouse control, and that will take significantly longer if your sensitivity is constantly changing
my sensitivity is much lower than yours and mine is still considered fairly high for a competitive scout -- most that i know use between 14" and 18" for a full 360. some people can pull off being accurate without needing that (usually they come from quake and have been using a high sensivitity for a long long time) but for everyone else i can virtually guarantee a noticeable improvement in tracking and general consistency if you lower your sensitivity
hope this helps

Yeah, saying your in-game sensitivity doesn't really help anyone. Just list how many inches it takes you to do a 360. It takes me 5.5" to do a 360 and I mainly play soldier and demoman(although sometimes I scout).
Also if you use mouse acceleration, I wouldn't recommend it for scout, although it works out fine as a soldier or demoman.
I also wouldn't recommend you changing sensitivity for each class, as it will mess with your muscle memory. Just find the sensitivity for the class you main and learn to adapt with it for your secondary classes.

I can adjust on the fly from my ingame sensitivity of 10 as soldier to my scout sensitivity at 5. It took me about a week to get used to, but I feel much more confident whenever I play scout or sniper.
If you main as a soldier or demoman, you should probably run a higher sensitivity so you have an optimal reaction time and it eventually makes it easier to hit airshots on fast-moving targets. You need the low sensitivity as a scout because you have to be precise enough to meatshot.
I also use a Logitech G5 at 800 DPI.

I run a G5 as well, but at the full 2000 dpi, with a sensitivity of 2.5 for all classes. I prefer precise targeting and lateral control and I maintain that with my sensitivity and weight setup. This allows me to make slower precise movements and quick "snaps" for reaction shots.

Mine is very similar to OP.
Except I think I found a nice number at 3.2

I used to be really dependent on having a sensitivity that was the same in every game, but ever since I started playing Quake Live I've become more adaptable to different settings.
I used to have a sens. of 3, but I had to turn it down for Quake. Now it's hovering around 2 depending on what weapon I'm using.
For TF2 I use around ~2.3 @ 1800 DPI.
For QL I switch between 2.3 for mostly everything and 1.55 for LG & MG, Rail is somewhere in the middle.
Also, a question for you guys with the G5, how do you think it compares to the MX518? I have a Deathadder atm and I'm getting kind of tired of it, I love the feel of the top surface though... so satin-y.

The G5 is the slightly better brother of the 518. Same shape, different insides and a nice weight system.

actually the g5 has skipping problems while the mx518 doesn't, the mx518 is the better mouse and its cheaper too
http://esreality.hexus.net/?a=longpost&id=1265679&page=22 for mice comparison, they haven't changed much since then

lol@ G5v1.
I have had zero problems with either my mx518 or my G5 (blue). I prefer the G5 because I make use of the extra buttons, I like the grip, and I like the weights.
