View Full Version : What Mouse Should I Get?

I am thinking of getting a new Mouse, and am still deciding on which on to get. I would like to pay $60 or less for it. I don't need a lot of buttons (1 or 2 is fine)
I've narrowed it down to these, though I'm open to more suggestions
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104076 It's not too expensive, looks nice, and have heard good things about it
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826153007 Again, not too expesive and have heard good things about it. Some people like it more, but I'm worried I won't like the feel (dislike the side button positions)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104178&Tpk=mx518 Similar to option 1, but cheaper, though apparentely better (?)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104079 Have heard very good things about it, but has a strange, bulky look and a bit out of my price range
So, what do you guys think? Of these 4, which should I get, or something completely different?

I'll get you a mouse for free. No lies. I'll PM you the details when I get home.
The third link (The MX518) is the mouse I use but it wears on the hand. If you want a simple, yet comfortable mouse, go with the G5.

Well, while the G5 has a slightly higher max DPI, the MX518 dominates it with tracking (The speed you can move the mouse before it bugs out). If you use low-med sensitivity the G5 should be ruled out immediatly, as it is one of the worst mice out there for that.
I don't like the look of the G9 and never tried it.
The DeathAdder is also very good for low-sensitivity, almost tied with MX518, it's really down to what drivers you prefer, and what shape you like the mouse. Another option is the Diamondback 3G, it's more or less the same sensor as the DeathAdder, but has a different shape, if you prefer the side buttons on that design.
I have heard good things about the Steelseries Ikari, but I don't have any experience or read an objective review about them.

Move your mouse around for a bit. Right now!

are you holding it with your palm or with your fingertips?
If you're holding it with your palm, get a Logitech. If fingertips, get a Razer.
Logitechs are bigger, smoother and have bigger "tails" that are very comfortable for people who hold the mouse with their palm. Mx518 and G5 are pretty much the same; the G5 has a softer material and the clicking sound is less "clicky" than most other mice.
Razer mice are small and have a small tail that keeps your palm free which is great for people that claw their mouse like me.
There's not really a "better" option; the dpi and responsiveness are all the same these days. Just go for the best fit with your hand. Go to a store and test them if you can.

Considering how old the mx518, i'd probably aim for something newer. That said, it has served me well for years.
And srsly visc, the g5 and 518 look almost identical. Dunno why yours wears on your hand, mine's great.

My Razer died in the first infected cup. Now I play with a 3 dollar mouse that is supposed to be on my server upstairs.
SHORTLY AFTER I WAS CROWNED: SLAYER OF MICE, THE BEST PLAYER ON TRINITY AND JOINED MOB.... oh wait...

It's because I have small hands. Yeah, I know...
My MX518 is the best, but I have to stick to my Intellipoint Explorer 3.0 for the mean time.

Most of our team has Razer DeathAdders. I swear by it....probably the best mouse I've ever owned.

yeah I have a g5 myself, and the only issue I have with it is not gaming related-- sometimes the scroll wheel will get misaligned somehow, and scroll at a point before it clicks/snaps to next position on the wheel. It's extremely annoying, but it fixes itself within an hour or so usually.
I guess nobody else has had this problem?

Just get her flowers on random occasions and you can't go wrong. I swear by it! :)

g5 or mx518, both solid.
My G5, that I recently replaced, was really bad. The tracking was completely terrible, and high speed movement made the mouse essentially hang itself. I replaced it with a Deathadder, and I couldn't be happier.

Loved my mx518 before my cord wore out at the point where it connects to the mouse.

My thoughts: Go to a Best Buy or some store that sells the majority of what you are looking at. Most will have displays to handle or the box will be conformed to the shape well enough that you can get a good feel for it. You don't want to buy a new mouse without trying it "on".
You have to figure out how you hold a mouse...this may help you: http://www2.razerzone.com/MouseGuide/html/palmgrip.php
Keep in mind that there will be a learning curve with any new mouse and you will get used to it.

Deathadder, with this info in mind:

It's fine out of the box for some, but if you want to tweak it just right, the info is out there.

Cough http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mice/razer-lachesis/
Been using Razer products for about 6-7 years now(i have there logo tattooed on my wrist) They are phenomenal products. Im not dissing logitech but i just find that there headsets/speakers are a whole lot better then there mice(i have an older logitech USB headset and z5500's 5.1 sound system). I have about 2 Razer Diamond backs with lots of years on there backs, and my Lachesis i just got a month or so ago with my razer lycosa. If you're going to put money on anything mice wise its
Logitech or Razer(Diamondback or Lachesis the other mice are kinda pointless from razer)
But honestly, Razer mice isn't for everyone(what JERKSTORE said pretty much puts it down to a T) the style of there mice is long and slick while logitechs are bulky. You can go to a best buy and open up Razer products front case and actually put your hands on them and get a tiny feel how it would be like. But honestly flexlegions link to razers grip style has alot to do with your style of mice. I use claw/fingertip.

I would say the G5. If for no other reason than the adjustable weight. it's amazing the difference it makes in your comfort after a few hours.
