I think all PC games are in a slump. TF2 is slowly progressing in two different directions:
1: Top pro players from other games that transitioned to TF2 are starting to retire. This means all the pro teams are slowly disintegrating, half the players get recycled and the other half end up leaving the game. Teams that have a mid skill level are filling in the voids the pro teams are creating.
2: The lower levels of the competitive scene are flourishing. With TWL finally creating the separate skill divisions that TF2 has needed for a while, it seems like TF2 could only get better from here.
The hardest thing to do in TF2 is finding a team that will last for an entire season of TF2 and want to stay together.

There is a great matchup tonight actually. The broadcast starts at 10PM Eastern. Follow the link to check it out.

I'm gonna miss it due to a match I have (or at least the vast majority of it). :(

and here:

(along with this site's file section, but nobody really uploads here)

I started out watching a lot of the Pwnage.tv on demand videos, which are pretty great.
QuadV.com is a European site that also has some on demand content.
The ESEA-Invite league is one of the premier leagues that has a well presented league page: ESEA-Invite (http://www.esportsea.com/index.php?s=league&d=standings&division_id=1331) You can download a demo of any match.
Watching demos is a bit more fun than being stuck in the shoutcaster's viewpoint as you can float freely and see the team co-ordination. Best of course is to listen to Pwnage.tv while flying through the demo.
