New Thread/Post Notification Images

For some reason, I have to view a new post that is in a thread twice before the "new post image" next to the thread/forum goes back to the default. Its not a drastic thing, as I have really gotten used to it.

I am more interested in whether this happens to anyone else and why it happens.
