i wanted to put this in a place where the mentors would all see it. a few of you have expressed interest in classes, so this thread is for discussion. we'd really like to get at least one class rolling in the near future, but we really need you guys to come together for some sort of consensus on what, exactly, will be taught.

dates
maps
class specific?
class specific strategies vs. team strats?

there was also talk of trying to record videos to compile a sort of 'how to play comp tf2' series. would anyone be up for something of this nature?

if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me here -- or, for a faster response, via steam (http://steamcommunity.com/id/302).

Maps and/or team makeup seems like it would work the best, at least in my opinion. My schedule's never definite, but let me know the week before and I can most likely make it

oh here we go, time to rival CB's project fo' free 8)
you realize we're taking on the prestige of e-pros...what're we gonna do!?
It'd be cool (if possible) to put together a mock scrim and have people join an STV of it. We'd pick all 12 players, and we'd all be in a mumble channel together so we could do behind-the-scenes planning of plays beforehand. y'know, to give folks a good mental picture of some stuff (that's all many people need)
Give me heads up as well, school starts next week!

my time got wiped out by school (had to bench myself on my team and everything), but I am available friday nights and weekends so classes then will be best for me. I can cover basic medic stuffs as well as basic map strats and positioning.

Agree with Apples. Mock scrim would be a pretty nice idea.

If we can get two teams to volunteer and decent caster, I can get a server with a relay, so the casters can talk in Spec ont he server and have it transmitted in real-time to SourceTV, plus a very easy to watch STV Demo.

Just need to the teams to keep things in Mumble (which I can provide if they need it.)

It would be cool to get nahanni in on this, since she's been ridiculously successful with drawing people to other community-oriented events.

Btw I wouldn't mind casting if you need another voice, I used to do it in the past for the now inactive e-rev tv. :)

Hmm Aristotle as caster, any other volunteers? Remember this isn't a game cast per say, but more a learning event. I'd figure 1 watching the Red while the other is watching blue.

My Relay has 200 slots, if we get a event the size of the 6v9 which had like 1000 people on it, we will need more..

Tragic, I was going to talk to iCreate as a potential team also, ping me tonight, it's not like I don't talk to the AG guys enough :-)

Generally, the teams involved should have some flaws so they get a nice mentor session out of it.

alright, mock scrim seems to be the medium of choice. 200 isn't bad for a start-- if it fills up then we've learned something, so i wouldn't worry too much about it unless you think it will absolutely hit capacity.

so from here, we need teams & a date/time.

HIYA GUYS!! Sorry I haven't been posting much these days but I think I have an idea that may help you. Since the TF2 community seems to be thinning out a bit and you and AG are the two main communities who provide mentors and classes I thought why don't we come together a bit more...hmmm?

For example, I have boogie and Method who do classes for AG every other Sunday (except the summer has thrown a few wrenches into the plans). If you guys want to plan something like this say on a monthly basis say every last Sunday of every month (or any day that works best or every two weeks) that way its easier to organize and plan and people know its going to be routine. We can have a set schedule on maps and strats for the month. I would love to get more involved with you as a community as I think it is time to join forces more. Please feel free to give me your thoughts and I am open to have any verbal discussions in a mumble. LETS DO THIS!! Whoot whoot CHEERS GUYS!! <3's

Lol, we have been planning this for a while actually, but i know you are kidding. I can talk to boogie to see if he has any time to do any of these if you need another person. He probably wouldn't have the time though. Bi-weekly IMO would be the best option, every month would be so so long.

Think boogie and Jonas have been working on shout casting, maybe they would be able to provide insightful commentary.

SURE thing. I don't mind coordinating this. How about this guys...come with ideas, speak to people of dates and lets me meet in the AG mumble in the evening perhaps this week? so we can post over the weekend perhaps? What day works for people the best? Practically any evening is good for me.

add me on steam & we'll try to hash something out, maybe make a tentative schedule. i still have to bug a few people about joining in/dates, & i'm not sure when i'll be able to make it into the mumble, but i'm almost always online on steam. c:

I've been rather busy as of late, so helping schedule isn't something I can do, but if you need a scout mentor to join in...i'm there! Weekends would be best for me.

don't let joe jonas cast. dude knows NOTHING ;D
It might be a good idea to instruct one team to play "aggressively" and another play "passively" since that seems to be one of the biggest shortcomings of a lot of new teams. they just don't understand why being aggressive works, or how to implement aggressive strategies, even if they "know" that it works.
I'm totally willing to shoutcast if y'all give me a date/time!

So hey peeps! I haven't heard from anyone with a set time or place yet. So I will set a time and place and please just show up unless you make other suggestions if the times don't work for ya. So how about Sunday afternoon (Aug 15) at 3:00PST/6:00EST in the AG mumble to discuss the above. See you there!! Cheers!

dawww, I won't be anywhere near a computer then (in the middle of nowhere in Yosemite). Still, I can't suggest a better time.

Are we still going with the mock scrim idea or is the main idea going to be opened up a bit more at the mumble meeting?

Aristotle

Chipbuster and Aristotle have no fear. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get a time where EVERYONE can meet. So here is how I usually work it. We just set a place and time people show up and I usually do minutes so people can comment who weren't there. I would like to think that this should be a quick open meeting to get a good foundation down. Once we get a good idea on who the main players are and who is going to do what the rest usually falls into place quickly. See you on Sunday to those who can make it and I will post minutes here after the meeting. I hope this is ok with everyone..

Thanks all.

Well the first attempt has failed guys...=( I must apologize as I dont remember if I was around at 3:00PST in the AG mumble or not (My B). I know I was online and I was for sure in AG mumble by 3:30 because I have orientation. I did not recieve a steam chat from anyone or saw anyone in mumble that was not normally there. I did AG orientation at 4:00 pst till 5:00PST and I still wasn't contacted by anyone or heard anything.

We can try again this Sunday if you like. Same time and place. I will be sure to pay more attention. So I deeply apologize if I missed anyone last week. Lets try again guys!! Again if this time does not work with anyone....lets set a new time and get together. Thank you CommFT!!....=)

OK guys. We did another attempt and Hawkeye and Tragic showed up to the meeting but no one else. Shall we try once more or please feel free to set another time. To those of you who have people on your friends list please forward them this post to remind them as people may not think it is not happening.

So once more AG mumble 64.120.126.120 port: 64841 Sunday August 29th at 3:00 PST.

Thanks guys! Lets get to the planning.....=)

Wasteland is unavailable right now due to some real life commitments. For the time being I will fill in.

As far as the classes, before we get something formalized, what days work, I know matches occur during the week so is Sunday night okay for something like this? Especially if we can get STV Demos recorded and uploaded?

Aristotle
08-24-2010, 12:28 PM
Problem with doing this on a sunday especially on the last few weeks on summer is people being down at the shore, on vacation or other things. Maybe a weekday would be better in the evening.

Hawkeye
08-24-2010, 01:15 PM
I don't think anything will fly until school is back in session (expecting a couple weeks into September) when people are settled, but that being said competing for time with CEVO/ESEA/UGC/TWL/Some other thing) during the week might be a bit much. So the main goals with the classes is to get the STV with audio inside it so people can watch it after the fact at their leisure.

Aristotle
