View Full Version : Scrim Application Idea

I know things have been slow ever since CAL has been on hold, but we have to get together and figure out a way to get more scrims. I was trying to think of ways to make the whole scrim process easier and I remembered something we used back in the old RTCW days.

We should have some type of system on the main page where teams can go and look for scrims. Basically, your team posts a time that they would like to scrim and another team can accept it. Think of it as a random Gamebattles match but would be for scrimming. Looking for a scrim tomorrow at 9pm? Post it and someone can set one up with you. You can possibly set it up so multiple teams can accept the scrim request and you can pick which one you want to play from a list. It would be a very simple process. You only need to fill in team name, time/day, bh/nm and a comment section.

We are all on at different times and I believe this would be a great idea so that finding scrims would be random on IRC.

This would also bring a lot more traffic to this site in general.

is it that hard to find scrims?

Yes it is. Wouldn't it be nice to know that you have to be on at a certain time to scrim? There are times when we spam for at least an hour before we hook a live one. Even then, it is not always a team worth playing.

Right now, this website is only used for power rankings and flaming. Let's make it do something a bit more useful.

Imo, you can find a scrim quick enough in irc to not need this at night.

As for finding a *good* scrim, just pm ppl on teams you know are good asking for one. If it ever gets to the point where there are enough good teams to warrant it, I imagine a channel will be formed for higher-level scrims (;)).

I'd say the problem lies with the # of teams in mirc than anything else.

Right now it looks like we have a lot of the top teams in #l4d.invite, but it just seems like it was a slow weekend. None of our guys have really been around and I haven't seen too many people posting for scrims in the channel but I'm sure if you're looking for good scrims just post in there and you'll probably get one.

Not a bad idea, messaging teams you know to be good always works best.

games to easy for 51. you guys are #1 so scrimming for you is pointless.

IRC Ridlock! I know you're on it.

Once again, don't put 51 to blame for something that is posted by a member.

I for one think it's a dumb idea, scrims are easy to find. Finding a good team just takes a little bit more effort.

That's a lot of work just to replicate something GameBattles already does.
