setting up VS. server can be a giant pain in the ass especially if you dont know what or how to do it. i know that l4d411.com has a set up but it can actually be prettyconfusing to follow it. is there any way that "commnunityl4d.com" could have a download of the actual folders needed to just put in and replace once a person gets a server? pretty much after that most people can edit the appropriate stuff they need to, to get it going for them. it is just the initial part that can be difficult. i think it would be helpful and most would appreciate it. plus i am getting ready to get a server and am going to need help with it.
thanks

Munky, I'd go with a GSP like Midnight Gaming or others that offer a mod install function through TC Admin. We have always used Branzone for servers in the past, but the L4D server we had was a waste because I couldn't get the mod to work for shit.
So last night I got fed up and ordered one through Midnight Gaming. It was literally setup within 5 minutes. All I had to do was click to install the mod and cevo cfgs and run steam update. Within 30 minutes (the steam update took awhile), the server was ready to rock and roll. I've always been a Branzone guy but I might be changing my ways if the server is stable (haven't played a match or scrim on it yet).

asking for one, and i know that there are others out there who would appreciate one also.

right on and thanks, i think it would be in the best interest of L4D server providers to provide a "READY to GO" L4D vs server, i would actually pay extra to have one i could order and it be ready and all one would have to do is edit to your liking. HINT HINT to the GSP HERE!! no offense but as of right now noone is really offering anything as to why one should choose a certain GSP over another...

I can just tell you how to do it real quick since its easy as hell.
If you are looking to create a pub server that is vanilla and only you can access instead of anybody always....
You can still have all the CEVO and League cfg's just make sure that after the matchesare over you "rcon exec cevo_off". Then in your server.cfg file on a new line type
sv_search_key "yourpasshere"
Make this password unique, cause if you copy someone elses it wont connect since there are 2 servers to connect to. So a word and a bunch of numbers usually works.
Then, in your launch options, put
+sv_search_key "yourpasshere" (with the plus sign)
you can seperate more commands with a ; and another + (if you wanted to add rcon_password, ect)
Now whenever you start a lobby and click start game, it will connect you and anyone in your lobby to this server. And while playing in the server, any person looking for a game in progress can connect to is. Only you the lobby leader needs the sv_search_key
Thats really all it takes. You dont need a crazy mod to switch back and forth.
Just make sure that your server isnt passworded in the server.cfg and is in your cevo_personalize
Success!

i thought you needed source mod, meta mod and a bunch of other shit to make it VS only?? has it changed??

You need meta mod and source mod if you want to run the various tournament configs and want to be able to easily admin the server but you don't need anything just to make a standard VS server. Just put 'mp_gamemode versus' in the config (sans ' ').

Munky, your confusing me. You have been around long enough where I figured you knew that already.
Fine. Let me just start from the beginning.
1) Install Metamod and the newest source mod (v1.2) on your server.
2) Download the cevo cfg's
3) Only personalize your cevo_personalize cfg (its common sense)
4) Put cfg's on your server in the cfg folder
5) In your server.cfg, add the line sv_search_key "yourkeyhere", add a rcon_password (do not put a sv_password in here)
6) There is no need to add the line mp_gamemode versus. The cevo cfg automatically does this, and if you join through a lobby, it will automaticlly switch to whatever you select in lobby.
Thats it. You are ready to to rock.
When in tourny play, just "rcon exec cevo" and begin. If you dontwant to restart your server after wards, make sure to type "rcon exec cevo_off"
And like i said before. If you want to make it easy, add +sv_search_key "yourkeyhere";+rcon_password "yourpasshere" to your launch options.
-Note, this is exactly the same steps for TWL and CAL cfg's. So just do the same for them IE exec twl, cal and exec twl_off, cal_off

Munky, your confusing me. You have been around long enough where I figured you knew that already.
my only confusion is where to put the files "EXACTLY" for match settings and admin stuff to work correctly, sorry :( appreciate all the help though it is needed and much appreciated. i am just a complete nub when it comes to this type of server setup for competitive play.
Metamod and Source mod folders go into '.../l4d/left4dead/addons'
So in your addons folder on your server you should see one folder called 'metamod', one folder called 'sourcemod' and a file called 'metamod.vdf' (generate your .vdf file here (http://www.metamodsource.net/?go=vdf)).
Go to the Alliedmods Wiki (http://wiki.alliedmods.net/index.php/Installing_Metamod:Source) to see the full guide on how to get metamod and sourcemod running on your box if you're still unclear.
Your CEVO/TWL/CAL etc configs go into '.../l4d/left4dead/cfg' and as Cartire says, to activate them when on the server you'll need to log into RCon (rcon_password yourpassword) and then type 'rcon exec cevo' to activate the cevo.cfg file.

OMG Wow... can no one here put it simple for Munk?
I went through all your pain already man.... here's what i did.
I know installing SM & MM is a pain in the ass... CEVo went ahead and made it simpl for all... here's what you do.
1) Download SM & MM (from CEVO)
Here's the links...
Windows: http://cevo.com/FILES/sourcemod-1.2.0-mmsource-1.7.1-win32.zip
Linux: http://cevo.com/FILES/sourcemod-1.2.0-mmsource-1.7.1-linux.zip
2) Follow the readme within the file... this is a simple "copy folder to your left4dead folder" process.
3)Go into your admins_simple.ini file (can be found in addons/sourcemod/configs).. and add the STEAM ID's at the bottom of the file that you would like to grant admin rights to... In my case.. adding my steam id... followed by the rights (99:z gives you full access)... and you can put "//name" at the end of the line just to identify who it is... in my case... my admins_simple.ini has this line....
"STEAM_1:1:6507893" "99:z" // ness33
4)Download the CEVO Config: http://cevo.com/FILES/cevo-l4d-server-pkg-04.28.2009.zip
5) Follow the readme to install (once again very simple, the only file you have to modify is the cevo_personalize.cfg file). Upload that to your left4dead/cfg file.. and you're good to go.
hit me up on steam tonight if you've run into any problems setting up you're server. I'm also running a MG server myself with the cevo config.
