Hello all,
I started playing L4D a long time ago (at launch), but I hadn't considered playing a lot of versus until May, after I watched some frag vids and gamecasts floating around on YouTube. Even then, I still didn't consider playing competitively until a couple of my friends and I had our asses handed to us by a couple of members of psC in a random pub game. Since then, I've played various members of the community together with my clan or in random pub games with much the same result.
I'd like to get better, and the best way of doing that is repeatedly playing against the best (no false modesty, please). Things in my clan are going kinda' slow at the moment, so I want to try this out by myself.
In short, I want to be able to play at the competitive level. I suppose I should start with this #l4dpug thing, though IRC terrifies me as a relic of the internet's troubled past. Also, I'm not entirely sure how active the L4D community is as a whole or (more importantly) how receptive it is to inexperienced players. Some of what I've read on this forum makes me nervous on both points (admittedly, none of the competitive players I've encountered have been undeservedly rude, so that's probably a good sign). Therefore any insights or information about the community would be welcome.
Don't hate me for being long-winded; I don't talk as much in person.
Cheers,
schizosid
