View Full Version : Two New Forum Features

Hey guys,
With the help of MrjNut, we have added two new features to the forums. You will notice that I have a Steam profile thingy underneath my name on the left side of each of my posts. This allows anyone to easily add me to their Steam friends, see when I am playing TF2, and even check out my backpack (you can do this by clicking the little vertical bar on the right side of the widget). If you want to add this to your profile, just add your Steam ID to your profile under the Steam ID profile field.
The other feature that we got working is a plus/minus frag system similar to that which is on GotFrag. It can be found at the bottom of each post. Two things of note with this feature: you cannot plus/minus frag yourself and after a total of 5 minus frags (-5), a post will be hidden.
What do you guys think of these new features? I like them.

I don't think the posts should be hidden by the plus/minus frag system, 5 is basically saying in mumble, hey let's censor this guy. I would up it to like 15-20 if we are set on keeping the feature.

Yea 5 is the default. I will make it 20.

I don't like the frag system. Mob mentality controls it, and it ends up snowballing posts towards opposing ends of the spectrum. Anyone that reads the forums should decide based upon a post's merit how good it is, rather than the merit of the post AND the rating it got.

As long as you can still read the post after it is "hidden" i don't see a problem with it.

I just tried it, and i don't really like how my page reloads after i did it. Is it possible to have it work like gotfrag? Where only the +/- changes and nothing else?

Graham should have maybe mentioned that this is a beta of the Post Rating function.
So please test it, shake your stick, and provide your feedback.

Agreed with you. Let's see what the mob does here? Everything is subjective anyways, even more so considering any type of rating.

Yes you can.

Good point on the reload. However, at least it reloads back to the post you rated. At least it does for me on FF. Would be good to know if different experience on other Browsers. It's possible to emulate your request and maybe put this to a "feature request" list. Please note my reply at the top of this post.
Ooooh, fancy.

On Chrome, after I rate a post it refreshes back to the top of the page. Doesn't automatically scroll back to the post I rated :(

I'm on Chrome too, I have that problem with a lot of websites if I start scrolling before the page has a chance to relocate itself back to where it was. If you give it a second it should pop back to where you were, just take your hand off the mouse :P

I like the +/- system but i dont like that it hides posts I dont think any value is really fair unless its ridiculously high to hide a post I think we should just rely on moderators to hide posts that are unnecessary

The page doesn't reload straight to the post I rated on Chrome. Just fyi ;)

Yea hopefully we can get that adjusted for Chrome. That is kinda annoying.
