2001 International Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear Champion (Individual) on zone.com
2002 " " " " (Clan - Alpha_)

between 2002-2010:

I was the ladder admin for the GameGodLeague's Rogue Spear Ladder.

I wrote articles for socom-2.com, which later became socom3.com, and is now called video-game-forums.com. I was the reason that the site was actually worth coming back to. And I was always just a regular member the whole time.

I was the co-editor of the socom3.com official strategy guide.

I commentated starcraft stuff at teamliquid. people liked me.

I made starcraft maps. they were passing fads. i haven't seen anyone play them in a long time.

I commentated TF2 for pwnage.tv for a while.

I played in CEVO-S4 FREE and finished in the top half of the group. Unfortunately we were just out of the range of the playoffs. All of our 2 losses were not given up easily, though. We made them earn it. One of them even went to triple overtime — that one was an epic battle...

I wrote articles for this website, Community Fortress.

I wrote several of the best articles on the CommFT Wiki.

I also commentated at tgbf.tv now alongside various people; I was the guy who got Schetter to do a double take at competitive tf2 and say "hey well maybe there's a future here after all", and I was also the guy who brought eXtine to commentating live games.

I was a mod here, once upon a time.

I got banned from Gotfrag, which puts me in the company of only the most legendary of tf2 trolls.

I was one of the first people to voice support for this mentor program thing when Fish #641 first brought it up on the gotfrag forums in 2008 (or was it 2009? who knows).

I was the original Pro-Pubstar 6v9 commentator and was also one of the reasons why it was brought back into the status of being a regular event for the community.

I'm also one of the most sought after mentors, having the most page views and replies in the forum (save for Noobina, but then again she's a woman).

Tonight Wand did an excellent job of helping me with jumps on Granary and Badlands. Most of the team came on and he helped with general tactics as well and I, and my team, are looking forward to future sessions with him.

I want to extend another thanks to Wand for sitting with our team last week. I think we probably spent close to 2 hours together. He had a lot of great observations and insight. He spent more than ample time with us going over specific things he witnessed in our scrim+match and was more than willing to answer all of our questions. He had a lot of material to cover, so it's good that he talks a mile a minute! :P But seriously, he did a fantastic job! Thanks mate!

I asked Wand to help me with my pocketing, and he did that and more! He watched a few of our scrims and went over our teams strengths and weaknesses, and how to improve. Thanks for dedicating some of your time to helping us!

If I'm mentoring, what do I do? Is there a server I go to? (I do not own my own server) what class am I teaching, or do I Pick? (I'm doing sniper, medic, spy). Who are my mentees? (do they come to me? Am I assigned them?). What time do I start and finish the session. (I have and application on mentor page, and a thread on mentor info forum with times) how long does it take to get a mentee? (I signed up a month ago). How big is my class? (do I teach 20 or so people at once? Or is it 1 on 1? If I get to choose my class size, then I would say 6. For to groups of three I can work with.). Are there certain things I have to teach? (if not, I have my lesson plans ready ;) ). Please answer my questions or I'll find some other site to mentor on :p

Turtwig, you are probably going to have difficulty mentoring simply because you aren't really catering to what this movement was originally designed for. More mentors and people wanting to teach is always good, but TF2 Mentors was originally made to help people break into competitive TF2, or low-level players who were already involved take their skill in their class to the next level. Given that you don't have any competitive experience and you are offering to mentor for a class that isn't run as a primary option in competitive TF2, your suitors will be slim. You are basically offering to mentor pub Spy, and while having more people wanting to help is always good, it just isn't very likely that you are going to have very many people, much less 6 or 20, interested in your services. Not that they aren't valuable in some capacity, but they aren't what most people who come here are looking for.

Well then what is competitive tf2? Is it a different game? Was buying regular tf2 a mistake? >:0

GrieVe

Of course it's not a different game. It is just TF2 played in a 6v6, structured, organized environment. Honestly, it is relatively difficult to mentor someone on things such as 'how to aim better.' That sort of thing is just inherent to the player, and while someone can give tips that might help improve themselves, really advice can only go so far to improve someone's hand/eye coordination and reaction time.

A lot of what this mentor program is involves teaching people the aspects of competitive tf2 that aren't present in regular just regular pub servers. Teamwork, communication, strategy, playing smarter, how their specific class fits within the framework of an organized 6v6 team, etc. That sort of thing is hard to just magically improve upon your own, which is why TF2 Mentors is around, to help introduce people to that sort of mentality and mindset. That is what most people who come to these forums and ask for help about are looking for.

Then where to I go to mentor people on spy tactics, and how to support your team as a spy? I want to teach people what watch is best when, and how to be offensive, defensive, or supportive when playing spy. Also I would teach them special manuvers to save their life or turn around a losing situation. There is obviously a lot more I would teach, but it would take an hour to type all of it. If there are any mentoring sites that you know that need a spy mentor, then please tell me. :)

I really don't know of any other sites, programs, or groups dedicated to mentoring and teaching players other than this one, sorry.

you know, there's a guy called Immortal-D over at tf2maps.net

he used to run these public meetings where people would go to learn about playing a class. he already organized one for medics and engineers and called them like 'Medic 101' and 'Engineer 101'. he hasn't helped do a spy one yet...

maybe you could talk to him and try to do that. the tf2maps.net community lets anybody setup events on their steam group, so i'm sure you can get people to help there!

I have spare time over the next couple of days. If anyone still wants me for those couple of days, I'll be willing to do what I can. I think I was inspired by the latest pro-pubstar match. I'm only willing to help a couple though, and only for this weekend.

edit -- alright cool; i got my fill of help done. thanks for listening to me rant for a few hours, guys.

Dude's really helpful, helped me out with my roaming mistakes like awareness, overextending, going for pics, etc. Knows a lot about 6v6 and is a class act, also helped our team with advice and such.

Make sure you go over a demo with him, you'll feel like you're being casted on tgbf because of his voice.

either way, he mentored me at med and then went on to mentor my team for a bit
was probably the most helpful person we had to mentor us
