community 4 fame deserves alot of prop

has anyone ever had problems teaching this game to ppl? i tried and i raged followed by the other guy raging. mebe this community has taken this game for granted thinking its as easy as we all assumed. c4f deserves major props teaching new ppl to play. but back to the question at hand, does anyone else have trouble teaching this game to noobs?

It's not a matter of teaching "new players". That's easy. It's teaching "stupid players" that's difficult. For example, teaching a "new player" means saying "don't spawn far away as the boomer." Teaching stupid players means saying "don't spawn so far away as the boomer... don't spawn so early either dude. And don't walk out in front of their faces..."

See the difference? Teaching someone who's new just means explaining details of the game. Teaching stupid players involves walking them through every little step and explaining every detail and why it's how it is.

In closing, I did a C4F mentoring one time. Carried a team of brand-new versus players (most exp was 1 guy who had played 2 games of versus) to victory against a team of 4 friends with over 300 hours each. All I had to do was explain how each setup we had could work effectively, did a count-down, then we went in. On survivor, I just told them when to start baiting (~20 seconds after first spawn goes down) and showed them the basic pace of survivor. We won by over 300 points on the finale... the other team raged before we wiped them. Overall, C4F is good, imo.

Basically, teaching stupid people is frustrating because there's some basic fucking common sense that some people don't seem to be able to think about themselves let alone fathom the concept when you enlighten them (ie kral's mention of "don't spawn so far away or so early with the boomer").

Personally, I do not have any issues teaching new OR stupid players. Although, there comes a time when stupid players need to stop playing stupidly or it gets frustrating.

If you need to teach people how to play L4D other then viable strats you should just put the game down all together. Things i'd consider worth teaching.

1. Kai jumping (vert leaps)
2. Pounce points
3. skeeting/dead stoping.
4. Infected/survivor strats.

If everything else doesn't come naturally, they are garbage or pubstar material.

Also the games dead, move along.

Kraljevo hit the nail on the head. C4F is extremely fun to mentor when you have new people. They don't have to be good at either side, they just need to have a basic understanding of how the game is played.

The most frustrating thing with C4F is when you get a group of stupid people. People who play this game 20-30hrs / week, but will never improve. These are the people that spawn the boomer 600 yards in front of the survivors every time. Intelligent people would realize after the first time "HEY, maybe that's not a good idea!" These people believe that because occasionally they can do it in a pub, it's always going to work. These are the people who usually cry "HACKER".

I'm proud to be associated with C4F. We don't help a majority of people, because a lot of people have disabilities when it comes to using their brain. Those that do listen and learn are significantly better than when they started.

Correction. S2 has absolutely nothing to do with the creators of dota. I think you have them mixed up. League of legends was made by the creators of dota(guinsoo only not icefrog) and LoL is complete garbage. Only thing decent about it is it's community.

Also how did they steal the graphics engine when everything in HoN is BASED on their "SAVAGE" game series engine. Granted the graphics look similar which is what the original GOAL was in the first place since LoL turned out horrible, but HoN is based off Savage and Savage 2 created by s2 games.

Sorry bro but it looks like a WC3 and plays like a WC3, what do you want me to call it? That's like saying BioShock isn't like any other UE game because 2k heavily modified the engine -- it's basically the same shit, they went for minimal originality. It's not a bad game, it's just a rehash. I sort of expected something more.

I donno what to tell you, its a completely different game, its like comparing counter strike to halo. HoN is much much faster paced, new heroes and it has everything dota was missing on top of hundreds of mods and a new patch coming out completely changing the game (again). If you don't like it thats fine but pretty much every competitive scene is picking it up. And for 30$ its better off then the 50 most people paid for a dead game.

well i played rts for ages dating back to command and conquer & red alert competitively. The thing about HoN is that every single game is never the same. Everything is situational; ranging from dumb luck to incredible skill, and when you've played dota for 7-8 years seeing a game like this is a god send.

It's like beer, nobody ever just straight up likes it. It's something you grow accustomed to and when you find that one beer with that distinctive taste that you've been waiting for, it feels like the world should revolve around it.

I'm sure if tribes came out with a god-like remake everyone would dive on it like cock-tease Jessica alba.
