L4d IRC channels

Sub Channels: #L4D2PUG #L4D2SCRIM #L4DSCRIM #L4DPUG #COMMUNITYL4D #L4DNAO #L4D2 (even though im still banned ;\)

we will be voicing all L4D teams that are idling and tagged up.

Why should you use IRC? It exposes our game to other competitive gaming communities (who for the most part USE irc) and with that helps bring in new and competitive faces to the game, as well as making a central place for pugs, scrims etc.

dont have IRC? you should get it and support what the community is doing for the game www.mIRC.com

there are all kinds of tutorials out there, you can easily find one on youtube that will walk you through everything and you are going to want to register an account through www.gamesurge.net/newuser

what's the big deal with #l4d? i realize you guys want that glorious 500, but it's not like blindphaze is all that bad. maybe it's different outside of my perspective, but all i saw was him idling all day while most of you guys had pretty high access and could do whatever you want. splitting up and practically boycotting doesn't seem like it'll help an already pretty dead left 4 dead presence on irc.

just wondering...

the point of a COMMUNITY is that its governed by THE COMMUNITY, not some douche bag who wants to sell servers. in all honestly I could give 2 giant shits, but since im already in IRC for other reasons, why not support the people that have actually supported us?

It's a good move for THIS community, but you have to realize that most people new to irc or who don't know of this website will still more than likely try #l4d and/or #left4dead.

This is exactly what i brought up last time we tried to switch after the whole GZ fiasco. The idea for the community we have built will work, but 60% of the idlers on #l4d are not really apart of this community. And #communityl4d alone is such an arbitrary long name that only people from here are gonna idle it even if they do at all.

It might be too late, but why not at least #comml4d. Anyway, i hope it does pan out, but it will take a lot of effort to make it the centralized l4d channel. I highly doubt it will happen that way though. Heres hoping.

That's partially the point. We want it to be a relatively controlled environment rather than a general channel. We'll keep the focus on scrims, community activities (IC3, pugs, etc), and not advertisements.

Well we think it's the right time with L4D2 popping off soon. I think the influx of new and returning old players will level the IRC playing field temporarily and we can get where we want.

Essentially the root issue is control. We aren't willing to build up another channel to have it ruined by GZ, BP, or some other nijcannon.

you have no idea how good I am at promotion, #l4d will be dead in a week.

the only reason for the change to a channel that graham owns, is so we dont have some fucktard decide to do w/e they feel with the biggest community channel,all but killing any community that was in that channel, i dont know how many of you have been to #l4d in the past couple months, but there is no community it is just ads and MAYBE and occasional scrim.

As stated by Graham and dmon, the heart of the issue is control. We don't need 500 to do our jobs, but we've been burned twice by GZ. It's gone like this:

1. We advertise the channel, use it in our promotions, and build up idlers.
2. GZ or whoever is in control turns the channel over to some shitbird.
3. We get kicked out, or our sponsors get kicked out.
4. The channel goes to shit because these guys don't care about the community, they're just trying to push servers.

The pug bot went to shit and BP disappeared over the summer, and he didn't bring it back and put any effort into it until Ravager and Jerkstore started setting up their own channel. The bottom line is these guys want to run things with minimal effort, and don't respond to criticism until their position is threatened, which we're not going to waste time supporting.

If your fingers hurt typing our longer channel name, don't idle us. We won't be advertising any more channels we don't control, so if this "splits the community" or loses us some pubscrubs that don't know our channel name, so be it. Enjoy seeing server ads every 30 seconds.

I dont have the problem with it, and I will of course idle. I have always supported this community and have helped it tremendously on the tournement side of things. My concern is exactly how you are portraying the idea of this channel. I love all your ideas of no ads and user control, but the problem im seeing is that were trying to form a clique and not a community. We need the pub scrubs and the random players to join the community. The few dedicated teams and players that are apart of this community are not going to be arond forever, they will move on. Fresh blood is needed to keep this community thriving.

Step 1 of a community is an open easy access to that community. We only have a set number of teams and players that really hang around this community and without an easy access for new people, thats all will ever have.

My thoughts are not to be negative but more constructive. I want this to succeed too, but we need to look outside the box and beyond the easy answers. #communityl4d will do fine with the people we have, but I dont see it being the number 1 spot for L4D without some other options.

My question though is this, where has BP been, and whats the gamesurge's policy on channel abandoment? I mean, hell, we make up 90% of the opped personel, why cant we mutiny this. There has to be options.

Now i know this may be shooting from the hip, but some of us are still in good standings with GZ, if he could retain it, the slim, and i do mean slim chance of him giving it to graham could be worked out. Something to think about at the very least as a mild option.

It may be a longshot, but we need to try this option at the least.

If anything at all, I see GZ in control being better then BP. I know he can be difficult to deal with after certain things have ensued. But like I said, we can try.

We tried this after the first coup, and he strung us along and never relinquished control of the channel. He's proven to be untrustworthy, so until Graham is given 500 we simply refuse to consider this option.

RE: the above, I was addressing your arguments (which are shared by a lot of people) and not you, we know you support us. We don't want to hamper pubbers and whoever else, and if we had a choice we'd be using #l4d, which admittedly is a much better channel name. All of these points are valid, and I agree with you.

Again, the core thing here is not that there are a lot of ads, or BP is a dick, or whatever. The reason we did this is we have been burned in the past by advertising for IRC channels that we don't control.

Anyone can see that this community is strongly entrenched in IRC, so if we don't have some form of IRC representation we would be fools. However, if we don't have 500 in those channels, the promotion we give them is wasted, because they can just wait until the channel is large, coup us and do whatever they please. Gamesurge's channel inheritance policy is seriously flawed, which is how GZ (who is an admin, how impartial is that...) took it from rabidcrab in the first place.

We are simply making the best of what we've been given, which blows but is the only option as far as we're concerned.

all of the community members that were op'd have been removed by GZ, we have no community say in #l4d anymore

You realize that you're destroying the general channel in the process by advocating ppl to not idle #l4d? That leaves two options: either your channel becomes a general channel whether you like it or not, or another general channel ends up being formed because you prevent #communityl4d from becoming one.

And yes I realize that your post doesn't actually advocate leaving #l4d itself, but dmonixed's does, and I assume you agree with him since you're part of the same movement.

#l4d is the grand prize needed to be the center community in l4d. Regardless of past coup's, untrustworthy people, and bad jokes, this channel would be a higher prize than #comml4d ( i shorten it). With control, clean house, restart, grow. Its just as easy to repolulate that channel as it is to populate #comml4d. Bite the tounge, get the channel, move on.

I don't care whether they idle #l4d or not but we are looking to make #communityl4d the general channel so yes, that is the goal. If BP ends up giving #l4d to Dan or someone within the community, we wouldn't mind making use of that channel. But if it isn't handed over to someone with non commercial interests, we don't want anything to do with it and the community shouldn't either.
