Give... for the membership fees. I'm sure some of the ESEA guys are cool, but this isn't really about generosity, it's about money. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that (I'm an American, making money is ok!), but just don't be naive about it.

If ESEA really does succeed and provide a great PUG service, I'd happily pay a few bucks a month to participate. Hell - I don't like ESEA and I'd come back if they really did have a great PUG product. The question is really if they're offering something better than what people get for free already (or if the differences you highlighted really matter).

When ESEA gets pugs going Pug.na is going to die. Pingu doesn't do shit anymore and neither do the other admins.

If we want to grow, then we all have to start compromising, otherwise ESEA might pull the plug, and then what? back to CEVO?
Unfortunately it's really not that simple of a decision and never was. TF2 is and always will be recreation, so paying for a pug or playing for free really will matter to a lot of people. I think for participants in the ESEA Leagues, PuGing there makes absolute sense if they have the servers to support it. It just makes sense to leverage your money already spent.

The question everyone really has as I am reading this over, is players not active in the TF2 leagues that don't necessarily pay for premium right now at all, is it worth the time. You already said no it wasn't so that is that.

You will want to concentrate on ESEA league players and leveraging the system, basically after scrims die off since a couple people had to leave, whomever is left just grab a server and host a pug, move it on a team by team basis. You'll find most Lobbies run in this mentality and it works fairly well for some good solid games.

Or spend some time to get ScrimMod actually used in TF2 (if it even works?) and just have the teams already have the client open and so forth. Then the PuGs might be an easier sell since the client will be there already and it's simply a matter of joining up.

@redterror - Since it appears (from anecdotes here) that many of the PuGs are by east cost players, the times are a bit later, that will likely chance as more teams become active on the system.

ESEA doesn't need an f2p pug system to draw people in, it has the fact that it's the only NA tf2 league that actually matters

hey btw, not trying to derail the topic, but how come we don't use ESEA for scrims too? seems like a logical way to setup scrims if we're using it for pugs too

Or, like me, he's an adult with a career and life outside of TF2.

2+ a day minimum.

If you don't pay for ESEA then don't use the pug system, I'm just trying to get people that have premium to try the pugs so we can eventually can use ESEA servers for all of our normal uses (scrims, pugs, matches, ect.) I am not trying to get people to pay $7 a month just for PUGS, that's stupid.

having actually played in many esea pugs, you're doing yourself a disservice if you have premium for league and don't take advantage of the pugs. My main gripes are that the pugs start rather late and that everyone is trying to get into the same pug server so there are never concurrent pugs. If the nightly pugs go into the offseason, I can see myself buying premium just to play in them.
