New Graphics card problems
This is gonna be really open ended with little information but
Ever since i upgraded from my 7800 graphics cards to my 9800 graphics card i cant seem to play any game except hon without it crashing over an X amount of time. The only way i can fix it is by restarting my computer.
I THINK since i have to restart to do this that it's a problem with my RAM, being as it restarts my physical memory, but i'm not too certain.
I'm gonna be getting a new HD soon from a buddy 150 gig 10+ rpms WD raptor gonna use my old HD just for storage and the raptor for my OS. Hopefully this will fix my loading problems with games.
I only have 1 gig of ram with a 32 bit XP OS. it's 2x 512 800 mhz corsair dominator's. I'm looking at getting more ram with this...

check the card temps first, sometimes the heatsink isn't seated correctly
also, verify the problem exists with more than one game

With only 1gb of ram.. you're not going to see a huge improvement in loading times with a raptor. It's time to get that computer out of the stone age :o

It's not the cards heat at all i checked. Yeah i know it's the ram now, my problem is. Is that i cant buy the ram i want because best buy refuses to take my debt card = /
Also i HAVE to get 2x ram sticks, my MOBO runs ram in duel channel

Who wants to loan me money or get me an early birthday present?[21st birthday aug 22nd] :D I'll personally teach you how to play HoN? :(.
It's only 61$ with shipping, i have the CASH but no way to purchase online as i owe both my banks buttloads of money from overdrafting "Fees".
Was stuck in chitown, lost a 20$ bill to take a train back home and had to overdraw to get money for a ticket (30$ to Overdraw) then 5$ per day over drawn, it's a joke. Also if you wanna buy me a long USB extension strip that'd be great.

This one seems nice, my USB ports are all jacked up and is fucking with my headset pretty bad. This port looks like it doesn't come with a USB extension cable though. Bleh.

What if you got a part-time job in place of all your gaming? :x
It's been a long time since I've read about where the better performance is between running 2gb (2 sticks) in dual channel vs running 3gb (3 sticks) in single channel. Some newer motherboards will run the 2 sticks in dual channel and the 3rd in single channel, but your motherboard is most likely well before that technology. As for upgrading from 1gb.. running 2gb will probably give you more performance in single channel than 1gb in dual channel alone. BUT, some older motherboards not only support dual channel but also requires use of dual channel (even # sticks). Before you cut yourself short, I'd look into if your motherboard requires use of dual channel or just supports it.
With that said, one thing you will need to keep in mind is that ram can be very picky. Different brand of memory may not care to work well together despite being the same speed and having the same voltage requirements and timings.

Get a credit card? :p
Ram can be picky. Whenever you get 2 different brands of ram, there is a gamble. The probability of the sticks working together IS higher than them not, but there still a significant chance they won't.

Man, you're all worked up about the first DDR stages. DDR-2 & 3 work different now. Ram Ghz are even crossable speed wise now (they just adjust to the lower speeds)
Also, fuck no on the Credit card.

I think you're reading too much into what I'm saying.. I'm not saying there is a high probability that the ram won't work well together, or that I am ignorant about how the ram can have different speed/timings and still run fine at together. I'm simply saying there still is always a gamble -- it's not entirely foolproof. Lighten up.
With that said, I think you have your answer and we can /thread. GL with your 'duel' channel and hardware issues.

basically, what he's saying, the ram really needs to be the exact same to work best, or at least be able to run in the same ranges in timings and voltage.
also, if you are running mismatched ram, you 100% need to set manual ram timings in the BIOS. it might work for a while with auto, the the chance of the system blue-screening is much higher if the timings are off

if $20 overdraws your checking account RAM is possibly a bad purchase.

and it wouldn't have happened if you simply had a credit card, which would also sort out issues of you not being able to purchase things online (something that often let's you avoid paying sales tax, and you can also often find places that will provide free shipping) ;]

Do you keep purposely calling them 'debt' cards because you are poor at managing your funds, or is it just another 'duel' channel deal?
Enlighten us as to how credit cards are for women.

Uhhh..because around here they are Called DEBT cards when they are directly linked to your checking account. Then they are called CREDIT cards when you actually dont have the money and you pay it off as a end of the month bill.
Basically my ATM card is a DEBT card which can be used as a CREDIT card if i had funds in my checking account but instead of paying a bill, it drains my money directly from my checking account.
You get it?
In order to get a CREDIT card you have to have a good line of CREDIT to begin with, and i dont.
Here's proof fag.

L.O.L. You continue to deliver.
That was a good comparison between debit and credit cards, but when will you better address my question as well as enlighten xan, myself, and others how credit cards are for women? I'm hoping what I'm actually asking in my last question doesn't elude you.

Omerta, you can hook up your debIt card up to PayPal. It's a good idea to have money that you can use to buy something online, or you get stuck in your present situation. Also, I'm failing to see how building a good credit score for future endeavours such as buying a house is womanly.

Perhaps you should worry more about addressing your financial issues and less about fixing your computer up enough to be more suitable for gaming. Seems like you have some sound priorities.
As you can see, some of us still look forward to your wisdom of credit cards being for women.
